Improve BSNL service at Longding: Union
ITANAGAR, Aug 14: Expressing resentment over the frequent break-

Cleanliness drive
ITANAGAR, Aug 14: Large number of public including officers, public leaders, businessmen conducted a cleanliness drive at Sagalee township on August 13 on the eve of Independence Day. The social service was jointly organized by the local administration and Sagalee Bazar Welfare Committee (SBWC), Sagalee.
Besides drains and road, the participants equipped with dao, spade cleaned up office premises, institutions and general field. In a rare gesture, the vehicle owners also voluntarily spared their vehicles for lifting of garbage. After the cleanliness drive, the Sagalee township wore a fresh look.
Later in the afternoon, a volleyball match has been played between heads of department and SBWC executive members.

35 Hepatitis ‘B’ cases detected

ITANAGAR, Aug 14: The city-
As many as 732 persons were screened and around 35 positive cases were detected during the camp.
The coordinator of the camp, Medicine specialist Dr. Rinchin Dorjee Mageji strongly called upon the people to remove the stigma being attached to Hepatitis positive persons and informed that Hepatitis B virus is not spread by casual contact, such as holding hands, hugging, coughing or sneezing.
It mainly spread through infected needles through IV, shared needles during drug abuse, infected unscreened blood products, tattoos needles, sexual contact with infected person and infected mother to infants during pregnancy etc. He advised the people to take Hepatitis B vaccine to prevent hepatitis infection and also suggested the people to avail such free medical camp in near future.
While briefing the importance of today’s free Hepatitis B screening camp. He informed that the detected cases would be provided 50% deduction in HBV DNA test by the company.
Therapy Manager, Rajarshi Purkayastha and team from Zydus, alongwith medical staff of Heema Hospital conducted screening and detection test.
As per the Zydus booklet, the sign and symptoms of hepatitis B usually appear about two to three months after the person is infected. Acute Hepatitis B sign and symptoms may have abdominal pain, dark urine, joint pain, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, weakness and fatigue, diarrhea and mild fever. Chronic Hepatitis B sign and symptoms are Headache, itchy skin, light colored feces etc.
APEDA conducts energy awareness programmes
ITANAGAR, Aug 14: As part of the Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas observance on August 20, the Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (APEDA) hosted various programmes – drawing, quiz and essay competitions to make the occasion a grand success.
In this regard, drawing competition was organized at the Urja Bhawan here yesterday in which the students (class I to V) from 15 schools of Capital Complex participated. It was followed by a live quiz contest at the conference hall of Urja Bhawan here today among the students from 12 schools of Capital Complex. Two students (class VI to VIII) from each school took part in the event.
King Cup School, Itanagar, represented by – Nani Rima and Amrin Rasulkhan bagged the top prize. VKV, Vivek Vihar with Jina Jamoh and Pullenium Perme bagged the second prize while KV No 1, Naharlagun team with Shridhti Sonowal and A Roy took the third spot.
The quiz show was conducted by two APEDA officials.
Later today, an essay competition on the topic – “Renewable Energy: Contributions for declining Global Warming” was held at the same venue. 15 students – class IX to XII, from different schools of Capital Complex took part in the competition.
Apart from the first three position holders in each competition, the consolation prize winners and participants will be awarded during the Akshay Urja Diwas observance at the Banquet Hall here on August 20. Besides cash, mementos and certificates will be given away.
Earlier, the quiz competition was formally inaugurated by Director of APEDA, Er Marki Loya.
While addressing the participating students, he called upon them to carry forward the message for more and more use of renewable energy sources for sustainable development of energy sector in the long run.
Meanwhile, the IPO, APEDA, T Muri has urged upon one and all to join the Akshay Utja Diwas observance at Banquet Hall here on Aug 20 to make the occasion a grand success.

President Police Medal for ITBP DIG
ITANAGAR, Aug 14: R K Saini, ITBP DIG, HQ Itanagar has been awarded President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in recognition of his long years of exemplary and unblemished services on the occasion of Independence Day 2011.
Born on 1st August, 1955 at village Hasangarh, Rohtak in Haryana, Saini joined ITBP as Assistant Commandant in June 1980 after his graduation. The officer got a rare opportunity to receive "Colours" presented to ITBP by the then Prime Minister of India Late Rajiv Gandhi on June 20, 1987 for his dedicated service.
The officer during his posting in Kashmir valley from 1995 to 1997 carried out number of successful operations, besides providing security to Jawahar Tunnel, the lifeline of Kashmir valley. He represented India in UN Peace Keeping Mission in Mozambique during 1994 where he worked as Civilian Police Monitor as well as was assigned a sensitive and important assignment as International Electoral Observer in the historical elections in Mozambique. He made exclusive contribution in establishing ITBP Frontier Hqrs at Shillong in 2005 as well as raising of a new Sector Headquarters of the Force at Lucknow in 2008.
For his outstanding performance spanning over 31 years of service to the Nation, he was awarded DG's Commendation Roll (6 times), Police (Special Duty) Medal with Bar, UN Peace Medal, 50th Independence Anniversary Medal etc. During 2005 he was awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

Inspite of the silent maintained by the state government on the issue, dream for a beautiful Pasighat still endures for the community. Many luminaries of the society today participated in the dharna, prominent among them were Okeng Tatung (Ex MLA), Talop Darang General secretary COSAAP (East Siang) and several executive members of Arunachal Teachers Association (ATA East Siang Unit). Poma bamboo processing center product outlet opened
ITANAGAR, Aug 14: Adding another feather to the Raj Bhavan initiative of Poma Bamboo Processing Centre, a showroom cum sale counter for its product was opened at Chimpu, here today. Secretary to Governor Ankur Garg inaugurated outlet, christened as ‘Galleries of Cane and Bamboo Handicrafts’ in a simple function, which was attended by Raj Bhavan and Arunachal Pradesh Forest Corporation ltd. officials, members of Poma Village Development Society and general public. Decorated with native touch and designs, showroom gives a tribal flavour in it look and produce.
Led by Poma Anchal Samiti Member Techi Anna, the Village Development Society members adorned the outlet with handicrafts made by the villagers, which include cane and bamboo trays, fruit baskets, dustbins, kitchen items, indigenous caps, cloth hangers, bamboo mugs and chutney makers and wood cravings. Addition another produce of the indigenous women, it has segment for local textile produce such as gale and local coats. With the opening of the outlet, interested people will get desired local produced items and souvenirs easily.

It may be recalled, on the advice of the Governor the first meeting for developing the project was held on 27th May 2009, which was attended by the State Planning Secretary cum Secretary to Governor at the State Forest Research Institute (SFRI), Chimpu. This was also attended by officials of Raj Bhavan, Planning, SFRI, Panchayat leaders and Goan Burahs of Poma Village. Taken up in a Mission Mode, under the active initiative of MD SFRI Sh. G.N. Sinha and Nodal Officer, Mr. Gumtum Rime, Divisional Manager, APFCL and Panchayat leader Poma Anchal Samiti member Mrs. Techi Anna, a Village Development Society was formed to take up the project as a group venture. A vacant plot of land was identified and handed over to the society. The department took up the construction of the centre and got the machines procured and installed. Along with other machinery, portable cross cutting machine, knot removing cum slicing machine, polishing machine and sanding machine were put in place. Meanwhile trainings for the villagers on handling of the different types of machines were imparted at CBTC, Guwahati.

New research in the journal Science takes us a step closer to this vision.
Fuel cells need a catalyst to speed up the chemical reactions that change hydrogen into water and electricity. Some microbes, though, have known for a billion years how to make enzymes that can do the job using cheap and abundant nickel and iron.
These natural enzymes are unfortunately difficult to obtain and do not do so well outside the microbe.
Now researchers have managed to make a synthetic, toughened-
So far, they have looked at just one step in the complex reaction, where two hydrogen atoms taken from water are snapped together to make hydrogen gas.
But their new synthetic enzyme is performing surprisingly well, in fact it's 10 times faster than the natural one, making 100,000 molecules of hydrogen gas every second.
